I was looking for a giant mug when I decided it would be fun to buy some white ones and decorate them. I drink a lot of tea (I usually stick with the classic green tea), so it was getting really annoying to refill my little 8 ounce cup every couple of minutes. This gargantuan mug called the "latte mug" came from Target for just a couple bucks. It is absolutely perfect, especially because I also happen to drink my
All you need to do this craft is this porcelain pen and any white ceramic.
It took me 4 trips to different craft stores to find a black/any pen. I was really frustrated! I probably had these mugs for over a month before I could do this! I suggest you buy your pen online so you don't have the same issue as I did.

My first design is a bunch of rows of dashes in alternating directions. It got a little tricky towards the top row since you can't touch your design without smudging it. Luckily, if you do touch it, a little bit of windex on a paper towel wipes it off easily.
The second design is many hearts in different shapes. I thought this would be easier to do, but the marker made it hard to do the little ones. The paint drags itself, so that you have to do over the design a couple of times to keep it in the position you want it too. If that makes sense?
I really like how these turned out, and now I wish I had more white dishes to decorate! The only problem I would see with this craft is if you wanted to do something really detailed and intricate due to the paint dragging problem.

I love the dashed design!
ReplyDeleteI use paint pens, which might be a little easier to find than porcelain pens. You just write, let dry, then put in the oven to cure completely. This was a tip I borrowed from Martha Stewart. I got my paint pens in the scrapbooking section of Walmart. I love the slashes and dashed you did on the first mug! Also, thanks for your tips on my sewing issue over on Tilly and the Buttons blog!
ReplyDeleteHopefully it helps, I know how frustrating that can be!
